#ChiropracticCare Myth: “Self Adjustment”

Any chiropractor will tell you that “self-adjusting” is dangerous, but why is that? And when I say “self-adjusting,” I mean when someone purposely “cracks” their neck or twists their back to achieve the “pop.” As many will argue, this provides temporary relief, but you could be doing long-term damage to your spine. “Chiropractors are specifically trained to feel or ‘motion palpate’ joints and assess their ability to move in the directions they are designed to.” (Kulm, 2020) Injuries can also occur when you are self-adjusting, such as soft tissue damage and joint dislocation. Consulting a chiropractor about how to mitigate these aches and pains is recommended.
