Why should you visit a chiropractor? As has been said, chiropractic care provides a drug-free approach to pain and discomfort associated with conditions such as neck and back pain, headaches, sciatica, arthritis and more. Chiropractors focus on treating the underlying cause of the problem, and not just the symptoms.
Many people fear the work of chiropractors, but here is why you shouldn’t. The Stanlick Chiropractic blog gives a ton of helpful advice to new patients, and I hope to summarize what was said in his article.
I think the biggest question, or fear if you will, that people have is whether or not getting an adjustment hurts. The answer is a resounding no. I think the biggest reason why you might hear tales of people saying that yes it does hurt, is because they were probably expecting it to happen. Our brains are powerful, and can create what are called “self-fulfilling prophecies.” A state of Virginia department of health website defines it this way: “A self-fulfilling prophecy is simply the physical outcome of a situation being influenced by our thinking, either positively or negatively.” For example, you may tell yourself that the event you are going to will be awful, and it will be.
I don’t tell you this to say that your fears are invalid. When you have never received an adjustment before, it is an unknown situation. Unknowns are always scary until you experience them. Always make sure to communicate with your chiropractor, even if you are nervous. They will listen, and they will work with you.
