There is an old wives tale that even I, the youngest daughter who is writing this article, can attest to experiencing. Anyone who has chronic pain from an injury or otherwise can tell when the weather is changing, and it’s getting colder.Current research acknowledges that there is a relationship. There is not a clear answer to why it happens, but there are theories. Most of the prevalence of this belief is almost entirely based on anecdotal evidence, but it is very real for those of us who know. The Pain Center in Boise Idaho gave some ideas on how to manage weather-related pain. “. . . try to keep yourself warm. Layer up and take warm showers and baths and stay active. Do light exercises that are gentle on the joints, and don’t strain your joints if you don’t have to.”From experience, it is also okay to ask your chiropractor how much they know about helping with injury pain, whether old or new.
